ArnoldAnd was recently featured in Banker & Tradesman

Exciting moment in the press!  ArnoldAnd was recently featured in Banker & Tradesman — a go-to publication for those shaping the built environment in Massachusetts.

Why is this good news for us?  Because Banker & Tradesman doesn’t just cover projects… they spotlight vision. And my approach at ArnoldAnd is exactly that: a bold, design-led model for architecture and development that’s rooted in context, collaboration, and long-term value.

The feature reinforces what I hope you already know — that ArnoldAnd is a firm to watch.

I love the dichotomy of the two. Hospitality is looser, it’s faster, it’s deadline driven. The residential stuff is a lot more emotional.

Excited to be included in @bankerandtradesman this Excited to be included in @bankerandtradesman this week in an article about working across both residential and hospitality projects.

For me, there’s always been a natural overlap—hospitality design teaches us about comfort and flow, and those same principles carry into the homes I design. At the same time, the intimacy and personal scale of residential work inform how I approach larger spaces.

Big milestone for ArnoldAnd Development — we rec Big milestone for ArnoldAnd Development — we received ZBA approval last week for our Beech Street project: three thoughtfully designed townhouses in Roslindale.

At ArnoldAnd, we believe design should lead development. This project reflects that mission — architecture rooted in context, guided by purpose, and built for long-term value.

These homes were carefully designed to fit the scale and character of the street. Development doesn’t have to be disruptive — it can be additive, responsive, and even restorative.

Getting here took time, persistence, and collaboration. Zoning approvals are never simple — but they’re an essential part of the architect-as-developer model: staying close to the details and pushing through with intention.

We’re excited to move from concept to construction. Follow along as we bring these homes — and this vision — to life.

A New Take on a New England Classic… We’re br A New Take on a New England Classic…

We’re breathing new life into a center entrance colonial—a housing type that’s iconic in New England, with its symmetry, tradition, and timeless charm. But this client came to us with a bold vision: to honor the original character while transforming the home to reflect a more modern aesthetic.

This project is happening in two phases. Phase one is all about upgrading and modernizing the interior—refining the layout, updating finishes, and reimagining the home for how the family lives today.

Phase two: That’s where things get exciting. We’re designing a modern addition that intentionally stands apart from the original house—a bold contrast that reflects the evolution of the home and the people who live in it.

Framing 101: Before a single wall goes up, we take Framing 101: Before a single wall goes up, we take the time to lay everything out right on the deck.

Why?

Because it lets us step inside the design before it becomes three-dimensional.

Walking the plan at full scale helps us double-check dimensions, fine-tune placement, and catch any adjustments early—while it’s still easy to make changes.

It’s one of those behind-the-scenes moments that makes a big difference in getting the build just right.

While it’s a hallmark of older homes, it also gave us the opportunity to replace the floor structure. The result? A flat, level floor that’s safer, more comfortable, and ready for modern living—all while preserving the home’s historic charm. Have you ever lived in or worked on a balloon-framed house? No relation is one of my favorite spaces I’ve ha No relation is one of my favorite spaces I’ve had the opportunity to design. The warm wood details, inspired by the bowls traditionally used to prepare sushi rice, ground the space in authenticity and craftsmanship. At its heart is the pitched roof—a striking feature that not only defines the intimate dining area but also creates a unique interplay of light and shadow, enhancing the omakase experience.

Tucked away at the rear of a fully submerged bar and restaurant, this hidden gem invites discovery, offering diners a sense of exclusivity and connection. The design balances tradition and modern elegance, honoring the art of sushi while creating a space that feels timeless yet distinct. They say the kitchen is the heart of the home, and They say the kitchen is the heart of the home, and during the holidays, that couldn’t be more true. It’s where festive meals are prepared, cookies are baked, and loved ones gather to laugh, toast, and share traditions. Whether it’s brewing your morning coffee or mixing a timeless Old Fashioned, the kitchen sets the stage for the season’s most cherished moments.

When I design kitchens, it’s not just about functionality—it’s about creating a space that feels warm, inviting, and ready to host both daily life and holiday magic. From the flow of the layout to the glow of the lighting, every detail matters, because a thoughtfully designed kitchen doesn’t just serve a purpose—it brings people together.

What’s your favorite holiday tradition in the kitchen? And if you could change one thing, what would make it feel like the true heart of your celebrations? Let’s make it happen.

From the elegant, capped profiles in the 1860s historic portion to the clean, modern lines in the addition, every decision is intentional—creating a seamless dialogue between past and present.

Introducing Clinker House – a second-floor addit Introducing Clinker House – a second-floor addition that honors the home’s history while evolving it for modern living. Clinker bricks, known for their unique textures, colors, and irregular shapes, make this house stand out. These bricks, once considered imperfect, bring warmth, character, and charm to the design in a way that’s impossible to replicate.

Designing this addition has been about finding a balance between respecting the original clinker brickwork and bringing in a fresh, modern aesthetic. My process begins by immersing myself in the home’s story – understanding how it sits on the site, how it interacts with light, and how it feels as you move through each space. I study its forms and materials, ensuring that the addition feels like a natural extension of what’s already there while supporting the needs of contemporary living.

Excited to share more updates as Clinker House takes shape. Stay tuned to see this project come to life!
